All of those dog classes finally paid off

I like to take Mugen to dog class. We have fiinished several and I was thinking of taking a break until yesterday. I have a newly fenced in back yard that Mr Mugen loves to run in. It also has a nice gate in the back into the common area behind our house in our neighborhood. My son was out in the common area collecting bugs (like all boys do on spring days), and as he was entering in the gate Mugen decided that he wanted to romp out in the common area. I was in the kitchen with the windows open making dinner and I heard my son screaming " MUGEN MUGEN!". I immediately grabbed the cheese on my refridgerator door and opened the back door and said in my happiest voice "TREATY TREAT". I looked out and realized that Mugen was over 2 doors down in the common area and I watched him hit the brakes as soon as he heard me. I walked to the gate and said again "Treat come hurry hurry hurry!" He saw the cheese in my hand and immediately ran back into the yard and sat to receive his cheese. I closed the gate and saw my son falling onto the ground very upset crying. Of course I had no shoes on and I told him that everyone was fine. Cameron came back and got a giant hug from me. He was really scared he was going to lose Mugen. I told him that was why we took dog classes and that I would teach him how to recall Mugen so he could do it as well.
In case anyone who doesn't know why this is so important to us, it is because we have had 2 dogs get hit by cars before. Both were due to the fact that we had never learned how to recall our dogs properly and that they just never listened. One of my dog's was killed instantly and the other ended up in a dog cart from a severed spine. I am just very grateful to my classes at Pup Scouts in Nashville that helped us learn this and has made it a normal part of training in our house. I think that we will get in more classes soon.

Lovely Spring Day

It was a great day and I did my best to get the dog and kid out and enjoy it.
Here is the beginnings of my (dirt) garden.

Mugen has been enjoying the yard as well ....

As well as me discovering his love for my garden gnome. Poor gnome has no hand. Mugen finds the yard gnome tasty. As long as he doesn't like lettuce or onions right now I am safe.

Spring Break!

It is time for Spring Break in the house. We are off of work and I am going to be getting things ready for the garden and the back yard. First I will make sure to get a small fence for our garden since "someone" has already decided that walking in it is nice on the toes. Then I will be looking at stone to make a patio and walkway in the yard, for "someone's" paths. We want it anyway but now we see how Mr Mugen likes his daily paths to check on the neighbors and the cars driving by. Oh well a busy week.

Me and Mugen ( a comedy)

We were taking goofy pictures a couple of weeks ago and I just got to looking at it last night. I guess that we do become more like our dogs.

Garden is planted (kind of)

I planted lettuce seed in our square foot garden and I though that Mugen would have no interest in it until I looked last night and saw, paw prints in the dirt. I will be getting a small fence this weekend. Also I am hoping next week to add broccoli or peas to the mix. I will garden my own produce this year!

On the puppy front Cameron and I havs decided that if we get a girl we want to name her Prudence. It's from the Beatles song "Dear Prudence". We haven't decided about a boy yet, and the husband hasn't totally given in yet either.

I am sick with puppy fever

I wil admit that I am a bit too excited about Mugen's mom Star expecting a litter later in the month. I am already making a mental list with possible puppy names with my son having veto power. My husband isn't too happy with my train of though currently either. But I look at Mugen lately and I can tell that he needs another dog buddy. At night we can play with him and take him out and he still will give me the look of, but I'm BORED!
I have been asking around to make sure I am just not adding just to add another dog into the household. Mugen's current trainer agreed with adding a dog, I have even been asking opinions from friends and family. I think the only resistance is my husband. Oh well how could he say no to a little fluffy puppy?

Let the crazy begin!

Here we are at the cusp of spring. Finally we are working on the dirt piles from our fence that was put in at the end of October. I have gotten Lettuce seed and we will be putting in a new raised bed in the back yard this weekend if the weather is nice enough.
I think I might be prepared to actually garden this year. I normally half way try and then end up with one tomato in September. But I will be ready this year. As long as Mugen doesn't like veggies!
